On an autumn day in October, 2013, I photographed the wedding of Darren and Leanne at The Heronston Hotel, in Bridgend. The Heronston is one of the best wedding venues in South Wales and the Bridgend area, with lovley rooms and fabulous grounds. On offer nearby are the fantastic views, beaches, castles and walks that make the area special and a treat to visit at any time of the year.
Darren and Leanne tied the know in the Heronston for a civil wedding ceremony. Darren is a friend from school, so it was lovely to catch up and be part of his big day with the wonderful Leanne. It was great to catch up with some friends from school that I had not seen for year too, such as Gavin Cuss. It really was a pleasure to photograph. After the ceremony we gathered the wedding guests outside for some formal group shots. As soon as the group photographs were done and dusted, the wedding guests had some drinks at the bar until it was time for the wedding breakfast. Myself and the bride and groom took the opportunity to go to Coity Castle for some amazing formal shots.
Although originally established soon after 1100, much of Coity castle dates from the fourteenth century and later. Parts were rebuilt following the siege by Owain Glyn Dŵr in 1404-05. This castle provides great opportunity for wedding photography, and Cadw, the organisation who look after these wonderful sites, are always very helpful in allowing me to photograph there.
After our excursion to the castle, the guest returned for a wedding Breakfast inside the hotel before partying long into the night. A great day was had by all!
As a Bridgend Wedding Photographer, it is great to have the scope to move around Wales shooting different locations and meeting the lovely people I encounter on their big day! Darren and Leanne were great on their day, and made the day a smooth one by just being themselves – happy, relaxed and in love!
