I run many workshops and tuition sessions offering something for everyone, from those just starting out in photography to industry professionals. The sessions are diverse and are designed to help everyone at any level to improve their skills and to appreciate good photography.

Unless specified, locations for tuition are arranged and agreed upon by both client and myself to make sure that learning is achieved in a fun, safe and desirable place. Any form of photographic tuition is available, from learning the DSLR, setting up a photography business, websites for photography, studio photography, etc…

As a general rule, sessions are £45 per hour

‘The Camera’ Photo Walk – 3 hrs – £99_MG_4472

004We will meet at a chosen location, and then use the opportunity to shoot photographs in accordance with a shot list. On the day you will learn the controls of the camera. You will learn shutter speed, aperture, ISO and a number of useful camera tricks in an outdoor environment with a professional photographer/lecturer. You also get to keep an informative handbook, with techniques and tasks to challenge you. We examine the fundamental workings of the DLSR camera, focusing upon shutter speed, aperture and ISO. We learn the relationships between these functions, and offer understanding as to how they can be used to make your pictures better. We will then move on to using the camera in creative ways, in relation to forming a keen sense of photographic composition.  This is a great session for any level of ability, but would suit people wanting to learn their way around a new camera, those wanting to improve upon existing knowledge, or those who simply want to be a better photographer.

Four Waterfalls Photography Walk (Ystradfellte) – 4-5  hrs – £150

cardiff-wedding-photography  cardiff-wedding-photographyAfter we meet in the waterfalls center, near Pontneddfechan, and make our way to the waterfalls, we start by examining and discussing the fundamental workings of the DLSR camera, focusing upon shutter speed, aperture and ISO. We discuss the relationships between these functions, and offer understanding as to how they can be used to make your pictures better. We will then move on to using the camera in creative ways, in relation to forming a keen sense of cardiff-wedding-photographyphotographic composition and utilising appropriate shutter speeds for different types of photographic imagery, looking

cardiff-wedding-photographyspecifically at waterfall photography. We walk to and photograph Sgwd Clun-Gwyn, Sgwd Isaf Clun-Gwyn, Sgwd y Pannwr and Sgwd-yr-Eira on the River Mellte in the heart of Wales wonderful waterfall country.

Upon completion of the day, you will email over some of your imagery from the session, with which I will then analyse and assess the progress achieved from the day and suggest further improvements for your photography. You also get to keep an informative handbook, with techniques and tasks to challenge you.

WHAT TO BRING – Camera, tripod, a spare memory card, appropriate clothing/footwear, spare batteries, lunch and neutral density filters (if you have them).

Be aware that the day is only appropriate for people with a reasonable level of fitness/mobility as the day is undertaken in a rugged, outdoor location. We will be walking a route that is approx. 4.5 miles off road.

35mm Black and White Film Photography – 3 hrs – £99

This is an amazing way to progress an existing understanding of camera controls and an opportunity to learn a fascinating photographic technique. The day starts in the comfort of your own home where we examine the workings of a Pentax K1000 – a fully manual film camera. We then load the camera with 35mm black and white film and head out to shoot.

007.jpgOnce back in the house, we will then develop the film, allow it to dry and scan it with a professional film scanning equipment. From there we will process the images to achieve outstanding end results.

All film, cameras, developing chemicals and equipment are supplied and included in the cost of the workshop.

Large format 5″ x 4″ black and white film photography – 3 hrs – £120

Large format photography is the pinnacle of photographic formats, and this workshop offers an opportunity to learn this fascinating photographic technique. The day starts in the comfort of your own home where we examine the workings of a Toyo View 5″ x 4″ large format camera. We then load film carriers with black and white film and head out to shoot.

Once back in the house, we will then develop the film, allow it to dry and scan it with a professional film scanning equipment. From there we will process the images to achieve outstanding end results.
